Weight Loss Program
Hoppy Akin
Pawtropolis can't take all the credit for Hoppy's weight loss. The Akin family added Hoppy to their already 2 dog household. Though he was only one year old when they got him he was already overweight (and didn't have much muscle tone), a couch potato you could say. Among exercises and strictly watching his food intake at home the Akins brought Hoppy in for frequent daycare visits. While at daycare they added on our hikes perk. During the hike staff members walk the dog for at least 15 minutes. Many clients do this if they have a
very hyper dog that needs more than just daycare to get them tired or if they are trying to get them to lose weight as well as many other reasons. Hoppy's routine worked. He is now in great shape, a perfect weight for his size and full of energy. Isn't that how every lab should be?
Miss Georgia Irving
Georgia is a special girl here at Pawtropolis. Her and her big sister Gabby have been coming to Pawtropolis for years. Georgia and Gabby have been battling weight issues for as long as we have known them. It is sad to say that Gabby passed away recently due to complications of old age. It is hard not to think that her being obese perhaps made her decline more rapidly. Mrs. Irving is one of our favorite clients. We love her and the girls both. Once Miss Gabby passed away we made it our commitment to get Georgia to a healthy weight. We all want to see her look and act like a 3 year old lab should.
Pawtropolis has decided out of the kindness of our heart to take Georgia in (no charge) and put her on a weight
loss program. Her mom is with us 100% (promises not to give her any extra goodies when she comes and visits with her) as well as her vets at South Athens Animal Hospital. Her vets guess that she should probably lose around 20 lbs. We will decide as we see her body structure as she loses. Because our clients are so involved with what happens at Pawtropolis we wanted to let you be a part of this process and keep an eye on how Miss Georgia is doing. Keep an eye out here for updates.
Starting Weight: 110 lbs.
April 13th: 115 lbs.
Why the increase? We had to decide on a good amount of food to start her on. However, because I knew her activity level was going to jump much higher than she was used to I didn't want to cut back on her food too much and have her lose too much weight at once. We actually fed her more than she was eating at home and wanted to see how much the activity would affect it. Seeing this increase let us know how we can adjust the feeding amount but still make sure she is getting all the nutrients she needs. Weight loss needs to go slowly.
April 22nd: 111 lbs.
Georgia is loving all of the extra attention. She seems to be acting happier and has more energy.
May 9th: 108 lbs.
It's a slow process but at least we are seeing progress.
July: 100 lbs.
We hit the nail on the head about Georgia's feeding amount, type of food and exercise program. Once we did she starting dropping the pounds. Unfortunately mom is moving out of state for a couple of months so we won't get updates. However, she promises to keep up her program and keep us posted on the progress. Hopefully by the time she comes back she'll be slim and healthy. Keep your fingers crossed.
