De-Shedding Program

With the cold upcoming months, dogs are starting to develop their full winter coats. However, if your dog lives indoors, their coats become confused. They instinctually grow a thicker coat during these times, but then being inside a warm house makes them start to prematurely lose this extra fur. What does this mean? It means a furry house!

If you've ever complained about your dog's shedding problem or are tired of sweeping up a whole pile of dog hair off the floor everyday, then our de-shedding program is for you. We take the dog and provide the usual great bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, etc, but then top it off with an extensive blow-out and brush. We're talking serious brushing here. We guarantee you will notice a significant difference when your pet arrives home. Call Pawtropolis for your appointment. We call this "Winterizing your Pet."

Pampered Puppy Program

Just like with children it can be hard to watch your puppy grow up and need their first hair-cut. However, we notice that many owners wait too long to introduce their puppy to the groomer. Even the fuzzy little puppy fur needs to brushed and combed. Visiting a groomer should be one of the essential steps to proper socialization for your puppy.

During the first appointments, the groomer is working to make grooming a very fun and positive experience. They use kind, but firm demeanor to train the puppy to stand still and accept brushing and cutting without a problem and even begin to look forward to all the attention they receive during their groom time. At this point the puppy is learning to be handled. Establishing a good grooming routine early is imperative in order to have a well-balanced easily groomed dog. This will make your dog have no stress for future grooming visits. Besides the positive socialization aspects, this will also ensure your puppy will always have a beautiful mat-free coat.

Our $15 Pampered Puppy Program includes shampoo, brushing, nails, ears and minor trimming of feet, if needed. Puppies under 4 months only. Extra charges for haircuts and de-matting will apply.

Call Pawtropolis for an appointment or more details.

Grooming by our Pet Stylists
We are proud to have Pet Stylist Alison Wilbanks!

Having a clean dog isn't just for the sake of your nose, it is also for the sake of your pet's health. Simply having smelly fur won't hurt your dog, but sometimes a smell can indicate a health problem. For example, ear yeast and infection has a very distinct smell. Many owners misdiagnose this smell as the dog needing a bath, however, ear problems need to be addressed specifically and until the smell goes away the infection is still there. We recommend dogs getting their ears cleaned at every bath.

Two other causes for bad smells are mats and full anal glands. When you dog has mats, the longer they are on the dog the larger they grow. They remind me of a snowball rolling down hill. What happens as they get larger is that they grow tight to the skin. The mats hold moisture and can cause the skin to get raw and irritated, but also whenever you have dark and moist combined you can have problems. Smell is an indication of these problems. Also, when you allow the mats to form tightly to the skin you risk having the Pet Stylist nick your dog because the scissors have to work between the mat and the skin. This is something that Pet Stylist work hard to avoid, but heavy matting makes for a more difficult groom.

Anal glands tend to be more of a problem for small dogs. Anal glands are usually emptied while the dog does his/her normal potty routine. However, some dogs don't express as much as they need and their glands become full. This is when you see your dog scooting their bottom. At this point, the groomer needs to step in and help express the glands.

Other grooming desensitizes are teeth cleaning and nail trimming. Click on the dental logo to the right and find out all of the health risks associated with allowing your dog to have unhealthy teeth and gums. Having toenails that are too long, actually impede the proper use of the paw. You want to have a groomer trim your dogs nails (Pawtropolis staff can at any time for only $5.00) at least once a month.

Pawtropolis has a full-service salon, capable of meeting all of your grooming needs.

Lauren Dooley has gained her grooming experience through her work here at Pawtropolis. She learned in no time how to do a wonderful shave down and trim. Lauren's patience with the dogs, make them feel comfortable and safe even if she is learning a new hair-cut design or technique. She is still an apprentice, but her talents are growing everyday. Lauren also serves as one of our Kennel Managers. Due to the high level of job responsibilities with the Kennel Manager position, she is only able to groom occasionally.

Featured Guest

Meet Dooley. Dooley started coming to Pawtropolis in September 07. Dooley quickly became a favorite of all the dogs in the medium playgroup as well as the staff.

Though Dooley loves playing with any dog that will play with him, he does have a best friend. His best friend is a beagle named Moonpie.

Dooley is a fun happy guy that fits in great at Pawtropolis. This is why he is our featured guest.
